CH 1 - Politics

What is Harold Laswell defintion of politics? Do you agree with it?

  1. Harold Lasswell’s definition of politics is “who gets what, when and how”. I agree with this definition because it covers every type of political process and how things work within groups. Politics is how we choose our leaders, and it does not always pertain to just government, but may extend to our daily lives as well. Harold Laswell’s simple and brief definition encompasses the general idea of politics and the three most important parts: who, what, and how. The "who" refers to primarily voters, candidates, groups and parties. The "what" refers to the substance and benefits that come with politics and those who participate in the political process. The "how" refers to how people participate in politics whether it be through simply voting, or maybe something more involved such as supporting and organizing in the name of a cause, political party, etc..

    1. I agree as well, however I question if this pertains to those withholding the power. I feel this definition directly reflects American government because American politics is all about the two political parties, Republicans and Democrats. The "who" being the party in power, the "what" being their specific political belief's and the "how" pertaining to "who" is in control and what they have to do.
