What did the Simpson-Mazzoli Act accomplish?
What changes in immigration laws are needed today?

  1. The Simpson-Mazzoli Act addressed the idea of immigration. The Simpson-Mazzoli allowed Immigrants who were in the U.S when the law was passed were given a 'path to citizenship' if they learned English and had no criminal background. Also, border controls are increased as a result and Employers were forbidden to hire illegal immigrants.(pg 582 Edwards)

    1. In addition to what Emily has said, I will add that this act needs to be revisited and possibly reinvigorated. As more and more illegal immigrants remain in our country, more and more laws are broken. Our internal controls should be strengthened as our border controls were.
