What role should the federal government play in the the field of energy?

  1. I feel that the government should play the role of an encourager. The government should help and support those states and companies that try to improve their energy options, but not mandate it too extremely. There are some regulations that have to be set in place, just for an enviormental sake, but the government should not have total control over the field of energy.

    1. While I do believe the government should encourage states to adopt cleaner energy policies, I believe that they need to to a take a stronger stand and have a stricter policy for the states. The government should mandate cleaner energy policies, because without mandates, most states will continue getting their energy from cheaper sources, which are the fossil fuels we need to shy away from. With this the government should give the states some money to fund the mandate and so they can explore different ways of getting renewable and clean energy. Nothing will be achieved if the government doesn't take stronger action on the issue, because states want to do what makes the most money.

  3. I agree with Sydney in that I believe the government should be an energy regulator because if each state decides to pursue energy technology each one there will be no one uniform technology to harness energy. Therefore the government needs to set the baseline for said technology so that the country has a unified source of power.
