Ch 19 - Alternative Energy

About 85% of our energy needs come from non-renewable fossil fuels.
Should we look for alternatives at this time?
What type of alternative energy source(s), if any, should the federal government support?

  1. I do think that the U.S. should look for alternative energy sources at this time. The current energy sources that we use such as coal and oil are severely polluting the environment and causing global warming. To solve these detrimental problems, the federal government should support energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines. These will cut down on the use of fossil fuels that pollute the environment and are non-renewable. I think that solar panels and wind turbines should start to replace non-renewable fossil fuels to help make a cleaner world.

    1. I agree with Allison that the U.S. should begin to find alternative energy sources at this time. A few other renewable resources that the federal government should support are hydro power, biomass energy, and natural gas.

    2. Another reason we should be looking alternative energy sources is because eventually we run out of coal to use. If we do not have a backup plan we will not be able to have energy when we run out. When need to start looking for alternative now so we do not have to worry about this problem in the future.

    3. I agree with Allison. Looking for safer alternatives for energy is very important in helping stop global warming. I think solar energy and energy from the wind are both two very good sources because they don’t go away and they are clean and safe for the environment. Stopping things that help contribute to global warming is very important to me and should be very important to the government, in my opinion.

  2. I do not think that the Government should look for an alternate fuel source because our entire society as of now uses fossil fuels and in the long run it would cost an extreme sum of money to change all of the machinery to accept another fuel source.
