Ch 20 - U.S. Policymakers

Identify the four (4) major policy makers concerning foreign policy in the United States.
Which of these do you think is most important? Explain.
Which of these do you think has too much power? Explain.

  1. The four major policy makers concerning foreign policy in the U.S. are the president, secretary of state, Congress, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Central Intelligence Agency (Edwards 625-29).

    1. In addition to what Jessica has said, I will add that the president is the most important, as he is the chief diplomat of the United States. Through this role, he is able to talk peacefully with diplomats of other countries in able to prevent boots on ground conflict around the world. I do not believe that any of these policy makers have too much power, as they all have checks on each other's powers.

  2. I disagree with Jarett because Congress is a huge influencer of foreign policy because they control the funds that run programs that deal with other nations along with the senate being able to confirm presidential treaties with other nations or not.
