The Supreme Court ruled in Miller v. California that materials were obscene if the work appealed "to a prurient interest in sex", showed offensive sexual conduct that was defined as obscenity by law, or lacked "serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value" (Edwards 116).
In addition to what Jessica has said, I will add that I agree with the court's ruling. It is in the best interest of the nation if certain things are censored or removed from the public due to the nature of said thing. This removal will overall result in a better society for America.
