Several states had major electoral changes between 2004 and 2008. The following states were carried by Republicans in 2004 and then by Democrats in 2008: Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Iowa, and part of Nebraska. Of all 50 states, none were carried by Democrats in 2004 and then by Republicans in 2008. These major electoral changes lent themselves to the election of President Obama.
