Ch 2 - Madison and 'Factions'

According to Madison the 'most common and durable source of factions' was the 'unequal division of property'. Do you agree or disagree?

  1. I disagree with Madison. I believe that the source of factions is not the unequal division of property, but the division of thoughts and ideas. Many people have different ideas and opinions on everything political. Instead of resolving or compromising the differing opinions, people create groups and parties and factions. Distribution of wealth and property does play into this, but distribution comes down to thoughts and ideas.

    1. But does the distribution of thoughts and ideas directly correlate to a distribution of wealth and property? Does an unequal amount of wealth or property lead the advantaged to create certain ideas about their own "kind"? For example, does the .1% of America believe in different ideals than the bottom 10%?

  2. I also disagree with madison's quote of the division being property, I believe that the major divisor would have to be the education and wealth of a person due to the education limiting the person to low end aspects of society, and wealth being the divisor of the assets the person can have making their opinion change whether their wealth is high or not.
