Ch 6 - Age and Politics

Is there a difference between the political actions (eg: voting) and political views of younger and older Americans?

  1. Yes, there is a difference between the political actions and political views of younger and older Americans. Younger Americans typically vote more democratic while older Americans tend to vote more republican. Older Americans typically exercise more political actions and vote more often than younger Americans.

    1. Expanding on the political views of both the younger and older Americans, older Americans, as you stated tend to be more republican meaning they take a more conservative stand on issues, favor lower taxes, less government intervention in business and the economy, and believe in a limited central government. The younger Americans, also as you stated, tend to vote more democratic meaning they take a more liberal stand on issues and that the government should have a more active role in people's lives.

  2. It is true that younger Americans tend to be more democratic. But why? One answer may be that youth find the Democrat message is more optimistic-- expanding rights, helping the poor, and so on. President Obama can thank young Americans in part for his succession into the Presidency. Young Americans support immigration reform, marriage equality, environmental protections, healthcare reform, and other issues that the Democratic Party champions.
