Ch 3 - Full Faith & Credit Clause

Article  IV of  The Constitution requires that states give full faith and credit to the public acts, records, and civil judicial proceedings of every state. Why is this important?

  1. This is important because it requires states to respect the judgment and verdicts of court cases unless otherwise said by the national government. This also requires states to respect verdicts in foreign governments. This clause affects how courts rule in other states based on diversity, political parties, and political events.

    1. While the clause does make national law applicable to the individual states, and foreign governments rulings applicable to states, the most important part of the full faith and credit clause is the fact that is declares that the official documents of one state must be recognized in another. This is important so that we don't have to get a new drivers license to drive to another state for vacation, and also that a marriage is legal if you move to another state.
