Ch 10 - The Election of 1800

The Edwards book, and many others, make a big deal out of 'the election of 1800'. Was it really an important election in U.S. history?

  1. 1. I believe that the election of 1800 was very important. The first reason I think that it was important is because it was the first time that we had a shift in power. The United States had two federalist in a row until the election of 1800 where we had a democrat-republican. This was the first peaceful change in power that the United States had seen. The second reason I think that the election of 1800 was important is because the election resulted in the proposal of the Twelfth Amendment. The Twelfth Amendment says that electors make a distinct choice between their selections for President and Vice President. This election was the first time for a lot of things and it changed the way the United States started to think.
