Ch 3 - Federalism and Schools

Which level of government, federal, state, or local should be responsible for funding and regulating public schools (k-12)? What about post-secondary education (13+)?

  1. I think that the local government should be in charge of the funding and regulating of public schools (k-12). The decisions and changes made to the public schools affect the students locally and not all of the schools in the state or even in the United States. This is why I think the local governments should be in charge of changing and funding the things that are going to affect the students that go to that school. I think that the state governments should be in charge of funding and regulating post secondary education (13+) in their state. The decisions and changes made to post secondary schools don’t affect just the students locally. It also affects students from different states and so that is why I think that the state governments should be in charge of the funding and regulating of the post secondary schools in their state.

  2. I agree that the local governments should be in charge of funding and regulating public schools (K-12), because the changes made to a school doesn't affect people outside of that school or school district as much as the people actually attending that school or living within that school district. I also agree that the state governments should be in charge of funding and regulating post-secondary school (13+); however, I think that the state governments should work in cooperation with the federal government in funding and regulating these schools, because there are students attending post-secondary schools from within the state, out of the state, and out of the country.
