  1. A characteristic that can make an interest group successful is intensity. Intensity can be very beneficial to interest groups because when a group shows that it cares deeply about an issue, politicians are more likely to listen. Many votes can be won or lost on a single issue. Interest groups are normally more intense when they focus on a single issue. Single issue groups have seen a dramatic increase in recent years and often draw membership from people who are new to politics (Edwards 339).

    1. Another characteristic that can make an interest group successful is its financial resources. There is no doubt that money talks in the American political system, and those who have it get heard. A big campaign contribution may ensure a phone call, a meeting, or even a favorable vote or action on a particular policy. Ultimately, the interest group with the most money or donations are the ones who are heard of and covered the most on social media. (Edwards 340-341).

    2. Another characteristic that can make an interest group successful is its membership base. When an interest group has many members that are part of that interest group, they gain a louder voice. The large numbers screams votes to government officials, and, therefore, makes government officials listen to that interest group.

    3. Another characteristic that can make an interest group successful is leadership. A strong leader can organize events, groups, and information which is key to the success of the interest group. Leaders are also key in attracting members, which strengthens the group and secures support for the groups policies.

    4. I agree with Melissa's statement that a characteristic that makes an interest group successful is its membership base. Without a strong and large membership base the interest group will not be heard. Also, the more members that are in that group will attract other people to join, which can lead to a larger membership base.

    6. Another characteristic that makes an interest group successful is cohesiveness. An interest group should want its members to be attracted to the group and have a resistance to leaving it. A sense of spirit among a group and willingness to participate gets members involved as much as possible. If members are cooperative and friendly, attendance at meetings will likely grow and help the overall influence of the group reach a higher and more beneficial level.

  3. One characteristic that can make an interest group successful is enthusiasm. With enthusiasm, an interest group is able to attract more people to their cause. It also makes their cause look more passionate if the group's members are hopeful and enthusiastic. Enthusiasm can also gain attention to the interest group's cause, especially by the media.

  4. One characteristic that makes an interest group successful is organization. If an interest group is not organized, then the entire organization falls apart. Organization involves great leadership, a good membership base, and cohesiveness.

  5. One characteristic that makes an interest group successful is its connections within the business world. With good connections, an interest group can rise to power with the financial and legal backing of a fortune 500 company.
