Ch 13 - The Cabinet

What is the role of the cabinet? Do we have too many cabinet-level positions?

  1. The role of the cabinet is to advise the president on the respective areas that each of the members preside over, in example the head of the treasury will advise on monetary issues. I think that we do have too many cabinet level positions because many of them have overlapping areas of control like the Dep. of Defense, Homeland Security, and the Dep. of Justice could all be put into one agancy.

    1. I disagree and think that we do not have too many cabinet-level positions. Each cabinet has a role in the American government and they are all important in the organization and productivity of the government. Having more cabinet positions allows for more to get done within the government because each one is able to focus on one certain area. With too few cabinet positions, each one would have to taken on a larger workload and cover a wider variety of issues which could hinder the government’s ability to get things done.

    2. I agree with Allison and would also like to mention that I believe that the cabinet members should have a stronger say in policies that affect their cabinet. These cabinet leaders are the leading experts in their cabinets issues. The president at the moment doesn't have to do anything the cabinet leaders advice, and I think that they should have more of a say in these issues.

  2. I don't think there's too many cabinet positions, each head of cabinet is very important in what they advise whether that includes energy or agriculture, like Allison stated, having more cabinet positions means less workload so it's beneficial to all parties
