Ch 15 - Iron Triangles & Issue Networks

What is an 'iron triangle'?
What is an 'issue network'?
Explain if these 'subgovernments' are  good or bad for the American political system?

  1. An iron triangle is a relationship between congress, bureaucracy, and interest groups, usually comprised of a member within the group. An iron triangle is also when everyone benefits due to doing favors within the triangle.

  2. An issue network is an organization of multiple interest groups that come together to stand for a specific issue in political policy.

  3. Issue networks and iron triangles are good for the American political system, because without them, citizens would have more difficulty becoming involved in their government and both issue networks and iron triangles are make up of people who want to help and inform citizens about what is happening in American political culture.

    1. In my opinion , iron triangles or "issue networks" are bad for American politics because it forms a system of government institutions that are so strong that their policy goals cannot be impeded, and therefore they cannot be stopped by easy methods. This is undemocratic and poses a threat to our system of Congress and the American government. Also this sets up a system that can be influenced by corrupt politicians that want to exploit their power in the triangle/network. These politicians exploit their power for their own personal gain rather than the public good. This causes corruption.
