Do we spend too much on the military? Too little? About the right amount? Justify your answer.

  1. I believe that we spend the right amount of spending. I do believe we fund wars that will never happen and some military spending is excessive. I think that even though we do put a lot of money into our military, it helps Americans feel protected and safe. Military spending is used to insure national security, promote peace in other parts of the world, and is useful is deterring foreign threats. I believe that the military has everything it needs and I think that we do the right amount of spending to insure that our country remains free and safe.

    1. While I understand where Taylor is coming from, I personally think we spend too much on the military. We spend over half of our national budget on the military- more than the next top 9 spending nations combined. Other developed nations have proven to have better healthcare, education, and standards of living.

    2. I agree with Maggie's statement that we spend too much money on the military. Like Maggie said, we spend more money than the next top 9 spending nations combined, meaning that the amount of money that we spend is way too excessive. Instead of spending so much, I believe that we should cut at least 1/3 of the military spending and put it towards the national debt that we already owe.

    4. I agree with Taylor that we spend the right amount on the military. It makes Americans feel safe living in America. We are still sending troops to places and keeping them safe. If we reduce some of the spending we could be putting our soldiers in danger and we need to keep them safe.

  2. I believe we spend too much, we spend more than any other country, we're more advanced which is a pro however, we spend 54% of discretionary spending on military and only 6% on education. From this statistic I ask, If we educate our youth enough shouldn't military spending go down because we have the best and brightest running operations? I believe money should go elsewhere.

  3. I agree with Bryce in that too much is spent on our military, with the amount of money we spend on our upkeep and other expenditures associated with it, you would feel that major advancements would come with such funds yet the military remains the same size and strength with breakthroughs long and spread out through time.
