Ch 9 - Media & Nominations

Which type of media - TV, Radio, Internet, or Direct Mailings - is most beneficial to candidates?

  1. I believe that Internet is the most beneficial to candidates. I believe this because the internet is used more than any other type of media today. If a candidate uses the internet to campaign to citizens they will be more likely to look or listen to what that candidate is doing. Without the use of the internet that candidate is losing a majority of voters in the internet world. As said on page 288 of the Edwards textbook "the computer revolution has also now overtaken political campaigns".

    1. I agree that the internet is the most beneficial type of media for candidates. The internet is being used more and more by candidates and in different ways such as: Google, blogs, YouTube, and Twitter to get their opinions and voices heard by voters. They even use the Internet to post negative things about their opposing candidates to try and sway the votes. The Internet has also had a huge impact on political fundraising, supporters can send donations to the candidate of their choice online which can be very beneficial to those running for office.

    2. While I agree that the internet is an important and influential tool for candidates to use while campaigning, I feel that television is by far the most important media outlet. Today, many people utilize the internet, but more use television on a daily basis. Elderly people and senior citizens do not use social media and the internet as much as younger generations. This information, coupled with the knowledge that senior citizens are the demographic that exercises their right to vote the most often, would make it very obvious that any candidate should utilize television during campaigning more than the internet or direct mailings.

    3. I believe that direct mailing is the most beneficial to candidates. Direct mailing is more personal than the internet and television. You actually receive something you can hold from the candidate. It makes the person feel more apart of the whole process. Being more personal with the people can help you receive votes. The more votes you can get is the better and that is why direct mailing is beneficial.

    4. I agree with Eli. I think that even though people might watch tv more, we are an electronic generation. People who don’t want to get online have to, because a lot of things have moved to online only. I think that everyone gets on the internet and I think that the internet is a way for people to express themselves and for other people to see what other people’s opinions are.

  3. I believe that TV seems to be more beneficial. Older citizens watch more television than any other age group and they are the largest voting group. Television has come a long way and evolved into a way to produce persuasive ads while the public watch television. Television creates a smarter way to campaign.
