Ch 12 - Political Parties & Congress

Do political parties play too large of a role in the organization and operation of Congress? Explain why or why not.

I believe political parties do play too large of a role in the organization and operation of Congress.The parties often tend to gravitate towards other members of the party, and with the tense loyalties between the two main parties there will be difficulties in negotiating. The lack of negotiating creates a gridlock, making it harder for all members of Congress to pass policies.

    1. I agree that political parties play too large of a role in the organization and operation of Congress. Often, members of Congress will agree or disagree with their fellow congressmen based simply on party identification. I feel that the strong party loyalty makes Congress an overall inefficient body when it comes to policy making and the process of negotiating.

    2. I also agree that political parties play too large of a role in Congress. Often many people are voted into Congress based on their party, and these people feel pressured to vote along party lines as they believe that this is the key to their reelection campaign.
