As far as gender, race, religion, education, and occupation is congress 'representative'? Does it matter?

  1. As far as gender, race, religion, education, and occupation congress is not represented. Congress is heavily white males. This is not representative of the United States. "85% of congress is white.". Congress is also dominated by lawyers while 41% of congress is lawyers. In the big picture this should not matter because congress members are elected by the people so everybody should have a say. These people should also be looking out for the best interest of the people not matter what their race, occupation or gender is.

    1. I agree that congress is not representative of the United States. I also believe that it matters. Although it should not matter, since Congress men and women are elected to look out for the best interest of the people, I believe that people of the same gender, race, religion, education, and occupation are more likely to have a similar mindset when making decisions. People who vary in these descriptions are naturally raised differently and would more accurately represent the United States in Congress. I do, however, believe that no one should be elected solely on their gender, race, etc. and that they must meet all necessary qualifications and be truly fitting for the job.
