Ch 13 - The Vice President

What are the formal and informal roles of the Vice-President? Do we need a vice-president in today's world?

  1. The Vice President has two jobs because he's also the president of the Senate: to cast votes in a deadlocked senate, and preside and certify the official vote count of the Electoral College. I do think that we still need a vice president because if the president gets impeached or leaves office we need an immediate candidate to swear in and I feel the vice president does the dirty work when the president as busy like attending media events and charity events, so it's still an important job regardless of the work load.

    1. I don't think that we need a Vice President in today's world. The Vice President really doesn't do anything that someone else couldn't do. The only reason we need a Vice President is if the president is killed. However, even then, we could just have another election for who the president should be. We don't need a vice president in today's world the vice president is only there to appeal to moderates. We no longer need a vice president because any political person could do the jobs that the vice president does.

    2. I agree and think that we still need a vice president in today’s world. Although the vice president rarely needs to fulfill any of his formal roles, he still plays an important part in the American government. The framers of the constitution created the position of vice president for reasons that they deemed important. If the vice president was not needed, they would not have included it. Although times have changed, I still think that the vice president is needed in today’s society to bring appeal to the presidency and be there ready to take lead of the nation in case something happens to the president.

    3. I do not think that a VP is necessary in today's world. The only reason that a VP is needed is to balance a presidential candidate's ticket and for presidential succession. The media makes the VP important or a big deal, but the only formal duty of the Vice President is to be the President of the Senate for the legislation process. VP is only a public figure that is no longer needed.
