Ch 12 - Committee Chairs

Do committee chairs have too much power? Not enough power? Or about the right amount of power?

  1. I think that committee chairs have about the right amount of power because they are the head of a committee and the head should be able to determine the agenda, and decide what bills should be considered.

    1. I believe that the committee chairs have too much power because they can refuse a bill to be heard. Another thing they can do that gives them a lot of power is can recommend on who hears the bill. So they can decide what bills and who gets to hear them. Committee chairs are the most powerful they have ever been and are becoming too powerful.

    2. I agree with Austin because I feel like we have a lot of checks to make sure one group or committee doesn’t become too powerful and they all work together and all have the right amount of powers.

    3. I agree with Dalton in the fact that the committee chairs are too powerful. It can be added that these positions are often not given to the person who deserves them, but simply to the oldest person in the committee.
