Ch 13 - Impeachment

Should impeachment be used? Why or why not? Under what conditions?

  1. 7. I think that impeachment should be used because impeachment occurs when the president commits a high crime, such as treason or bribery. Without the ability to impeach, there would not be a way to remove the president from office if he were to commit a crime or wrong the country in some way. Congress has the ability to impeach the president as a check on the executive branch. Without impeachment, the president would gain even more power and could, ultimately, become more powerful than Congress or the Supreme Court. Congress, in my opinion, can impeach the president if the president commits a crime, wrongs the country (as in refuses to do work, etc.), does a serious crime (for example, playing a poker game in the White House is not worthy of impeachment), and cannot be influenced by the public, only Congress has the power to decide if the president should be impeached (Edwards 405).

    1. Without a doubt I think that impeachment should be used if it is necessary. One of the founding documents of this country, The Declaration of Independence, says to overthrow a government if it's citizens deem it unfit. The same applies to modern day government but with the president, if the House deems the president unfit they have a right to impeach him.

    2. I agree with Melissa and Austin, But I think that impeachment should be used in moderation and with some limits. For example, Religion. If for some reason the United States decides to impeach a Christian or a Muslim n=because of their religion, then there should be rules in place to prevent that. But if for some reason, they are using their religion as an excuse for something that hurting the country, then guide lines should be put in place to review that.
